AIR ROTARY DRILLING
- Drilling method used to drill boreholes into rock formations.
- Air Rotary: Most water wells and environmental monitoring wells drilled into bedrock are constructed using air rotary.
Air rotary is a drilling method used to drill boreholes into rock formations. Air is utilized to circulate and cool the drill bit, bringing the drill cuttings to the surface, and maintaining the integrity of the borehole.
This is a great method to use on dense rock materials since this process can effectively move through common obstacles of even greater density which can occur in the drilling process.
In fact, this method is so effective most water wells and environmental monitoring wells drilled into bedrock are constructed using air rotary drilling.
Air rotary drilling is a time-saver, economic and cost-effective, and has a significantly lower impact on the environment than other methods of drilling.
DIRECT PUSH DRILLING
- Rigs use hydraulic cylinders and a hydraulic hammer in advancing a hollow core sampler to gather soil and groundwater samples.
- Advantages of direct-push technology:
- In the right soil type, can produce a large number of high quality samples quickly and cheaply, generally from 100 to 200 feet per day.
- Small diameter wells may be installed with this efficient technique.
Our GeoProbe® partners pioneered Direct Push Subsurface Sampling Technology in 1987. These machines "push" tools and sensors into the ground without needing to drill to remove the soil and make a path for the tool.
Rigs use hydraulic cylinders and a hydraulic hammer in advancing a hollow core sampler to gather soil and groundwater samples. This state of the art technology allows us to probe through sand, gravel, hard pans, high friction clay, tills, fill materials, and surface frost.
We use this technology for environmental investigation. Some advantages of direct-push technology include:
- In the right soil type, it can produce a large number of high quality samples quickly and cheaply. Generally from 100 to 200 feet per day.
- Small diameter wells may be installed with this efficient technique.
MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
- 1” to 6” permanent wells
We specialize in monitoring well projects and take pride in our record of delivering excellence. A monitoring well allows for periodic sampling and analysis of groundwater in order to detect any changes in the groundwater flow, level, and quality.
We use hollow stem augers up to 8.25" ID along with air/fluid rotary to install monitoring wells up to 6" in diameter. You can depend on Hawkston to deliver current and accurate results so that you can continue your project without worry.
SOIL/GAS SAMPLING
- Post run tubing
- Vapor implants
This measures the gas contained in between the grains of soil, different than directly sampling the soil environment. What used to be a tedious and complicated task has become efficient. Our Post run tubing makes it quick and safe to extract gas samples from any soil.
We utilize Vapor Implants to increase the safety and security of the tubing system, guaranteeing the joint is anchored within the depths of the ground. A PRT adapter and O-rings eliminate the concern of system leaks at threaded joints.
All of our drill rigs are equipped with automatic drop hammers and high speed rotary heads capable of coring rock.
GEOTECHNICAL SAMPLING
- Split spoon with Automatic Drop Hammer
- Packer testings
As one of the most important aspects of any drill construction, we take the process of Geotechnical Drilling very seriously. In order to determine if a location is suitable for construction, rock and soil samples will need to be removed and evaluated alongside soil stability and other concerns that can occur. This method is important for sampling the environmental area alongside determining/ensuring site and construction safety, rig stability, oil quality investigations, and more.
We have the most efficient geotechnical drilling rigs in the industry: GeoProbe® Split spoon with Automatic Drop Hammer, a tool allowing accurate collection of Standard Penetration Test (SPT) blow count.
We also use this valuable tool to conduct Packer testings, which measure the permeability of the ground in sections of boreholes. We can identify the water producing zones and help determine the proper course of action to take to resolve potential groundwater issues.
